Philosophy

Q: What is PE4life?
PE4life is a nonprofit organization with a mission to develop a country of active and healthy children and youth by increasing access to quality physical education solutions by engaging them in a fun and interactive way.

Q: What is PE4life’s Philosophy Regarding Physical Education?
Our approach is centered on our Core Principles and Mission.

Q: I want PE4life in my school.  Where do I start?
Visit our Get Involved page.  Most schools start by attending an Introductory Workshop at one of our six Academy Training Centers.

Q: Does PE4life discourage team sports?
No.  PE4life encourages the inclusion of a variety of activities including team/individual sports, fitness, recreation and adventure skills.  A PE4life approach is oriented more toward individual health and fitness than competition and is delivered in a supportive environment.

Q: How can you have daily PE in an era of No Child Left Behind academic pressures?
Current research supports that regular physical activity actually enhances brain function and improves focus and often can be correlated to improved academic performance.

Q: Do you have to have daily PE to be a quality program?
PE4life advocates for quality daily physical education.  We encourage maximizing physical education offerings and structuring classes to allow for the most activity minutes for all students.  The CDC’s Daily Activity Guidelines for children and adolescents (6-17 yoa) states:

  • Children and adolescents should do 1 hour (60 minutes) or more of physical activity every day.
  • Most of the 1 hour or more a day should be either moderate- or vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity.
  • As part of their daily physical activity, children and adolescents should do vigorous-intensity activity on at least 3 days per week.
  • They also should do muscle-strengthening and bone-strengthening activity on at least 3 days per week.

Q: To be a quality program, do you have to have a lot of expensive equipment?

While PE4life recommends incorporating technology and equipment that enhances participation and enjoyment, PE4life’s Core Principles and philosophy can be implemented with standard fitness and sport equipment providing they are available in the appropriate student ratios.

Program Support Services

Q:  What can you do for my school/community?
We offer community and in-service presentations and professional development opportunities as well as other Program Support Services to assist with the integration of PE4life’s Core Principles.

Q:  Can you come to my school and present?
Yes we offer community presentations as well as ½ day and full day in-services.  Go to our Program Support Services page to see a current list of options.

Q:  What topics do your in-services cover?
For a list of current options including workshops see our Program Support Services Page and be sure to check back often as we continue to revise our menu.

Q:  What is the difference between in-services and PE4life Introductory Workshop?
For a complete description of current support options including workshops see our Program Support Services Page.

Q:  What are your workshop dates?
Visit the Workshop Dates page of our website.

Q:  Why is it so important to bring so many people to train?
We have learned from past experience that having a well rounded team of individuals - especially decision makers from your school and community - will give you a better opportunity in implementing change in your program.  PE4life is a philosophy and it really can only be best explained by experiencing it first-hand.  To fully get your administration and community support, they truly need to see the PE4life philosophy in action to understand it.  We cannot stress enough the importance of having this support from outside your program.

Q:  My school went through a PE4life Intro Workshop.  Can we get a banner/t-shirt?
We do not provide banners or t-shirts at workshops, but we have an online Pro Shop where items can be purchased.

Q:  Do you offer a curriculum?  Does PE4life offer anything for Adaptive PE programs or home school programs?
No, we do not offer a set curriculum.  Instead, we promote the use of technology coupled with a variety of activities and methods to support quality physical education.  We do offer in-service trainings by our Academy Directors to help with developing these components of your program.  The PE4life approach can be adapted to any setting. PE4life is designed to include all children.

Q:  Do you have recommendations on what equipment we should buy and what are the most popular pieces for all age groups?
Equipment needs and priorities depend on individual program goals and resources.  Attending an Introductory Workshop is one way to gain insight to the answer to this question.

Q:  Who are your partners and why should we purchase from them
?
See our current list of partners who support the PE4life mission and can provide resources for your program.
