Your Superintendent and or Principal is a vital member to your training team, however we understand that time is valuable. Consider having these individuals attend for at least the first day of training so that we can teach him/her the PE4life way. If they are able to stay for day two and take part in the action plan building, great! Trust us, you want the DECISION MAKERS on board.
Each participant receives a copy of PE4life: Developing and Promoting Quality Physical Education

Who are the decision makers in your community?
Past experience suggests that workshop teams that include school officials, parents, community leaders and other stakeholders are more effective than a team of P.E. teachers alone. Determine who from your community or school is currently an advocate for your program as well as those individuals in leadership roles who are essential to your project team. Share your vision and invite them to be a part of your workshop team. Bringing the right people is essential to your success as you return to your community and begin to implement your plan.
We brought our board, our administrators, parents and teachers. Many of our staff primarily focused on coaching and not physical educating. This was an eye opener, and thus they are implementing correct teaching methods of instruction. We are developing a sustainability project for 2008 and beyond, we have established a healthy fit’n fun parent voices and student group, and we have developed a community medical board to provide input.

I cannot begin to tell you the benefit of PE4life Academy Training. It has awakened sleeping PE teachers, it has made administrators sit up and take notice and make them look at wellness as an issue to improve academics. There is not enough time or space to tell of all the excitement there is in our district now among PE/Health teachers who thought they were not respected, cared for or needed. We are changing minds in how academics can be changed because of wellness.

What are other physical educators saying?
You not only gave us the first step and vision to improve our program, you gave all of us a piece of your personal passion and your passion for our profession. Your knowledge and guidance will be a great help for us in taking the next steps toward creating a quality program. Training at the PE4life Academy Training Center showed us that a solid fitness-based program can change students lives. The students are learning how to incorporate fitness in their everyday lives. This will allow them to incorporate life-long fitness activities and principles throughout their lives. We have changed our PE schedule at the Middle School to let the students have PE 2-3 times per week instead of 9-week terms. We have also allowed our PE teachers the resources to do Fitness Testing and Professional Development so there is no guesswork in evaluating the students’ progress. . . .our physical education program at Deer Path has changed. We have made a shift from a skill-based curriculum to a fitness-based curriculum. This does not mean we have taken sports out of the curriculum but modified their concepts to be fitness orientated.
Our visit to the PE4life (Academy Training Center) will have a major impact on how physical education will now be delivered in Grosse Ile. The shift to physical education for lifelong fitness behaviors and attitudes will have a positive impact on the future of children throughout the country. I can’t help but think this is one of the most important days I have spent this year!
- Peter J. Dion, Superintendent, Grosse Ile (MI) Township Schools
My staff was so energized and enthusiastic after the visit. They now have a vision of how physical education is taught with the "New P.E." program. The organization, time management, structure and overall physical education classes at the PE4life Academy has shown our staff a new outlook towards teaching P.E. It has made a vital difference in the way physical education is taught in our school and how our P.E. teachers are viewed as educators. The visit has also shown my staff how valuable and essential it is that we become a more fit society to benefit ourselves mentally and physically.
